John Turley-Ewart: Sharia by stealth — Ontario turns a blind eye to polygamy

John Turley-Ewart

It’s an issue the Liberal govenrment of Ontario, led by Premier Dalton McGuinty, doesn’t want to deal with — polygamy in the Muslim community. Last week the Toronto Star told the story of Safa Rigby, a 35-year-old mother of five children who recently learned her husband of 14 years had two other wives. Ms. Rigby’s life is in tatters. She followed her husband’s advice that she leave Toronto and live in Egypt for a year on the grounds that it would be better for their children to spend more time in a Muslim country. Now she knows it was a ruse. He used her time there to marry two other women.

Let me get this straight.  The federal government refuses to get a handle on illegals pouring into our country.  A Texas town says you can't rent an apartment to a criminal in our country illegally.  And the federal government says it is an unconstitutional law because only the federal government can control immigration - which they seem to refuse to handle.  Is this a great country for criminals or what!!

The global warming debate arrives in the Senate next week, and it's about time. Finally, the Members will have to vote on something real, as opposed to their buck-passing to courts and regulators, and their easy trashing of President Bush.

The vehicle is a bill that principal sponsors Joe Lieberman and John Warner are calling "landmark legislation." They're too modest. Warner-Lieberman would impose the most extensive government reorganization of the American economy since the 1930s.

If recent reports of trends in religious observance prove to be correct, then in some 30 years the mosque will be able to claim that, religiously speaking, the UK is an Islamic nation, and therefore needs a share in any religious establishment to reflect this. The progress of conservative Islam in the UK has been amazing, and it has come at a time of prolonged decline in church attendance that seems likely to continue.

PARKERSBURG, Iowa (AP) - Fred Everts held back tears as he surveyed a pile of splintered wood and metal scraps that the day before had been his and his wife's home.

Several yards away, a makeshift sign was placed amid the rubble to remind Everts and others that they were in Russell Circle, once their street.

"We have no place yet," the 85-year-old said. "We were trying to get it cleaned up and save the stuff that's precious to us."

Everts was one of hundreds of people who spent Monday picking up what was left of their lives after a tornado ripped apart a stretch of northern Iowa a day earlier, killing six people, four of them in Parkersburg and two others in nearby New Hartford. In neighboring Minnesota, a child was killed by violent weather in a suburb of St. Paul.

Iran nuclear arms research serious concern: IAEA | Reuters

VIENNA (Reuters) - Iran's alleged research into nuclear warheads remains a matter of serious concern and Tehran should provide more information on its missile-related activities, the U.N. nuclear watchdog said on Monday.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) also said, in its latest report on Iran, that Tehran was holding back information on high-explosives testing relating to its nuclear program.

It said Tehran had 3,500 uranium enrichment centrifuges working at its Natanz nuclear facility, slightly more than earlier this year, and a few more advanced centrifuges were also being tested.

Jones Jr., 35, Army Private 1st Class, who died May 18, 2008 from Chicago, Illinois. They heard the call to greater service to their country – and they answered.

Millions of Americans have served, hundreds of thousands have died. Today, as we honor them with parades, cemetery services, memorial services, tears and hugs – we remember their sacrifice and thank them for the freedoms they have given us.

Power Line: Are We Safer?

We aren't any saffer?? Really??  Fortunately the raw data would seem to conclude something different.

Power Line: Are We Safer?

On the stump, Barack Obama usually concludes his comments on Iraq by saying, "and it hasn't made us safer." It is an article of faith on the left that nothing the Bush administration has done has enhanced our security, and, on the contrary, its various alleged blunders have only contributed to the number of jihadists who want to attack us.

Empirically, however, it seems beyond dispute that something has made us safer since 2001. Over the course of the Bush administration, successful attacks on the United States and its interests overseas have dwindled to virtually nothing.

Some perspective here is required. While most Americans may not have been paying attention, a considerable number of terrorist attacks on America and American interests abroad were launched from the 1980s forward, too many of which were successful. What follows is a partial history:

But on the upside, the guy "has learned a hell of a lot."

35 MPG: Why Wait Until 2020?

35 MPG can be an immediate reality, with one domestic manufacturer, if the United States government would only allow it to happen. Our elected representatives need to be aware of the facts and make the appropriate decisions.

Chrysler is uniquely positioned among the Big Three US automakers. Unlike Ford and General Motors, Chrysler is already building a slew of high-MPG diesel-powered vehicles right here in the United States.

Amazing as it may seem in these difficult times, Chrysler is not allowed to sell those cars domestically, due to recently tightened emissions regulations. With the exception of the domestically-available Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel, all of Chrysler’s North American manufactured high-MPG diesel-equipped vehicles are being shipped abroad.

Governor vetoes third attempt at power plant expansion

By James Carlson

The Capital-Journal

Published Saturday, May 17, 2008

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius on Friday vetoed the Legislature's third attempt at allowing expansion of a coal-fired power plant in southwest Kansas.

Supporters of the $3.5 billion project had tied this latest bill to economic development projects around the state, including a tax break aimed at bringing a $150 million manufacturing plant to Topeka. Sebelius criticized the bundling of bills in her veto message.

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius

"Rather than working toward a compromise solution, legislative leaders recklessly chose to jeopardize important initiatives for businesses and communities across our state by combining them with energy legislation I have previously vetoed twice," she said.

House Speaker Melvin Neufeld, R-Ingalls, said the bill would have provided "billions (of dollars) in opportunities." "Now with the Governor's veto, Kansas has lost out on those opportunities," he said. Many legislators were angered by an October decision by Rod Bremby, secretary of the Kansas Health and Environment, to deny the 1,400-megawatt plant addition sought by Sunflower Electric Power Corp.

In his ruling, the secretary cited dangers posed by the new plant's projected 11 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Many scientists link CO2 pollution to global warming.

Why I Will No Longer Support John McCain For President - Right Wing News (Conservative News and Views)

Honestly, for this fellow to have EVER believed that McCain would not push for amnesty is naive .  But, that said, this is a deal killer for many "far right conservatives" that believe in a simple little concept like our sovereignty.   I have said from the beginning, I simply can not vote for McCain - as painful as that may be.

Put very simply: John McCain is a liar. He's a man without honor, without integrity, who could not have captured the Republican nomination had he run on making comprehensive immigration a top priority of his administration. Quite frankly, this is little different from George Bush, Sr. breaking his "Read my lips, no new taxes pledge," except that Bush's father was at least smart enough to wait until he got elected before letting all of his supporters know that he was lying to them.

Some wildlife experts say it may not have been alone and may not have wandered so far. Are government officials in the Midwest covering up a dangerous and growing cougar population?

In some places, they're called mountain lions. Around here, they're known as cougars.

There are questions about whether government officials here in the Midwest are waging "the great cougar cover-up" by ignoring evidence and disavowing the wild cats' existence.

WASHINGTON (Map, News) - Al Gore’s cinematic sermons on inconvenient truths to the contrary notwithstanding, it is becoming clearer by the day that major cracks are appearing in the supposed consensus among scientists that global warming caused by carbon emissions is an urgent problem that government must address with drastic measures. Among the most significant cracks are these:

- New data produced by more than 3,000 sophisticated ocean buoys scattered across the world’s oceans indicate average water temperatures have been decreasing since 2003, not increasing as would be the case in Gore’s globally warming world. NASA’s Josh Willis, who studies the output of the sophisticated buoys that take temperature readings from thousands of feet below the surface, says the significance of the new data is unclear.

Craig was reportedly the architect of Hinckley's successful defense in which he was found not guilty by reason of insanity, even though reports by the federal prosecution found Hinckley sane.

So much for 'settled science'

Global Warming???  We don't got no stinking global warming!!

So much for 'settled science'

Lorne Gunter, National Post  Published: Tuesday, May 20, 2008

You may have heard earlier this month that global warming is now likely to take break for a decade or more. There will be no more warming until 2015, perhaps later.

Climate scientist Noel Keenlyside, leading a team from Germany's Leibniz Institute of Marine Science and the Max Planck Institute of Meteorology, for the first time entered verifiable data on ocean circulation cycles into one of the U. N.'s climate supercomputers, and the machine spit out a projection that there will be no more warming for the foreseeable future.

Of course, Mr. Keenlyside-- long a defender of the man-made global warming theory -- was quick to add that after 2015 (or perhaps 2020), warming would resume with a vengeance.

Hyping the threat from Iran

Yes, of course.  We are the cause of Iran's tremendous nuclear weapons advances.  Not 4+ years of weak, useless and failed EU negotiations.  Not a generation of accepting it terrorists activities by a timid world.  We need to give them respectability, welcome them into civilized society - then they will lay down their arms and admit the foolishness of their ways.  Sounds like a plan BHO, in fact, it sounds like your plan!

Hyping the threat from Iran

Barbara Slavin

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

War talk against Iran is rising again in Washington as the Bush administration enters its final months with little to show for its labors in the Middle East. Yet the consequences of attacking a third Muslim country in seven years could be far worse than an already precarious status quo. Iran hawks anxious to blunt Iran's growing regional influence also fail to grasp the real constraints on Iranian expansionism, instead creating a bogeyman that, like Saddam Hussein, may turn out to be a chimera.

Your Energy Future Under the Democrats

The Democrats do have an energy plan.  Is it really what the American people want??

Your Energy Future Under the Democrats

The "energy plan" announced by the Democrats offers one thing: a significant slowdown of our economy for at least twenty years. Those who run both legislative branches of the congress, and the energy plans of both of their leading candidates for president clothe themselves in the mantle of righteousness. That the Republicans are allowing this to happen, right before our eyes, tells us much about the sad state of American politics.

Who: Dr. Arthur Robinson of the OISM

What: release of names in OISM "Petition Project"

When: 10 AM, Monday May 19

Where: Holeman Lounge at the National Press Club, 529 14th St., NW, Washington, DC

Why: the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine (OISM) will announce that more than 31,000 scientists have signed a petition rejecting claims of human-caused global warming. The purpose of OISM's Petition Project is to demonstrate that the claim of "settled science" and an overwhelming "consensus" in favor of the hypothesis of human-caused global warming and consequent climate damage is wrong. No such consensus or settled science exists. As indicated by the petition text and signatory list, a very large number of American scientists reject this hypothesis.

It is evident that 31,072 Americans with university degrees in science - including 9,021 PhDs, are not "a few." Moreover, from the clear and strong petition statement that they have signed, it is evident that these 31,072 American scientists are not "skeptics."

McCain Sees Right-Of-Center Nation As He Moves Against Obama

He may "see" it, but he truly doesn't get it.  He has thrown the right-of-center conservatives under the bus, and  frankly Senator, there is no going back.

Newsmax.com - McCain Sees Right-Of-Center Nation As He Moves Against Obama

WASHINGTON -- Republican John McCain's game plan for beating Democrat Barack Obama rests on one huge assumption: Despite an unpopular war, an uncertain economy and the GOP's beleaguered status, the country still leans more to the right than to the left.

"There are going to be stark choices between a liberal Democrat and a conservative Republican," McCain says at nearly every turn as he seeks to portray Obama as out of step with the nation. The more the GOP nominee-in-waiting can frame the debate along those lines, and capture a larger chunk of the electorate's center, the better his chance to eke out a victory in an extraordinarily challenging political environment.

Schwarzenegger calls for 'rebranding' GOP

Yes, of course, why didn't I think of that.  Abandon Conservatism, embrace liberalism and Marxism, and then the Republican Party will truly become the Grand Old Party everyone yearns for.  How silly of me not to see that earlier!

Schwarzenegger calls for 'rebranding' GOP

"The Republican idea is a great idea, but we can't go and get stuck with just the right wing," Schwarzenegger said. "Let's let the party come all the way to the center. Let those people be heard as much as the right. Let it be the big tent we've talked about.

"Let's invade and let's cross over that (political) center," he said. "The issues that they're talking about? Let them be our issues, and let the party be known for that."

Evidence of Venezuela's support for terrorism could carry Hugo Chávez to the pariah status he deserves.

THE CONFIRMATION by an international forensics team that laptops and hard drives captured by Colombia originated in a camp of FARC terrorists ought to open a new era in relations between the democratic world and Hugo Chávez's Venezuelan government. Whether it does will depend to a large extent on how Colombia and the United States handle a rich but tricky diplomatic opportunity.

The computers and drives contain a staggering 610 gigabytes of data, according to Interpol, including 983 encrypted files opened by its team. What is already known is enough to demonstrate that Mr. Chávez and senior members of his government, army and intelligence service had a far-reaching clandestine relationship with the FARC and that Venezuela offered the group weapons, money and harbor on its own territory. Ecuador, which under President Rafael Correa has become a Venezuelan satellite, had lesser but also incriminating ties to the group, which specializes in drug trafficking, kidnapping and massacres of civilians.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, at age 38 and having served less than five terms, did not leap over a dozen of his seniors to become ranking Republican on the House Budget Committee by bashing GOP leaders. But an angry Ryan last Wednesday delivered unscripted remarks on the House floor as the farm bill neared passage: "This bill is an absence of leadership. This bill shows we are not leading."

Ryan's fellow reformer, 45-year-old Jeff Flake of Arizona, in his fourth term, is less cautious about defying the leadership and has been kept off key committees. On Wednesday, he said of a $300 billion bill that raises farm subsidies and is filled with non-farm pork, "Sometimes, here in Washington, we tend to drink our own bath water and believe our own press releases."

There are many in the Democrat party who truly understand how far off base Obama is.  Yet he will be their nominee.  You have to wonder if they think they can control him once he is elected.

Three prominent Democrats yesterday rejected Sen. Barack Obama's position of meeting unconditionally with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and leaders of other American enemies.

Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware, former Sen. Gary Hart of Colorado and former Rep. Harold E. Ford Jr. of Tennessee distanced themselves from Mr. Obama's position, each saying that preconditions for any such meeting would be essential.

"I'll concede, you cannot meet with foreign leaders — with terrorists, rather, those that lead rogue nations — without some conditions," Mr. Ford said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

AFP: Obama camp spies endgame in Oregon

Now I am supposed to let the feelings of other countries control how I live my life??  Really??  Is this the America the Democrat party now wants to bring forth, bending a knee at the feelings of all the other nations and adjusting how we live to meet their desires??  Hello - is anyone listening to what this man is saying???

"We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times ... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK," Obama said.

"That's not leadership. That's not going to happen," he added.

Bush, and His Use of "Appeasement" | Seattle Times Newspaper Blog

Bush, and His Use of "Appeasement" | Seattle Times Newspaper Blog

Wow, defending Obama and attacking Bush by saying the Hitler's demands in 1938 were reasonable.  Sadly, I suspect many in the Democrat party would agree with this opinion writer.

Bush, and His Use of "Appeasement"

Posted by Bruce Ramsey

Democrats are rebuking President Bush for saying in his speech to the Knesset, here, that to “negotiate with terrorists and radicals” is “appeasement.” The Democrats took it as a slap at Barack Obama. What bothers me is the continual reference to Hitler and his National Socialists, particularly the British and French accommodation at the Munich Conference of 1938.

The narrative we're given about Munich is entirely in hindsight. We know what kind of man Hitler was, and that he started World War II in Europe. From the view of 1938, what Hitler was demanding at Munich was not unreasonable, according to the prevailing idea of the nation-state. His claim was that the German-speaking areas of Europe--and ones that thought of themselves as German --be under German authority. He had just annexed Austria, which was German-speaking, without bloodshed. There were two more small pieces of Germanic territory: the free city of Danzig and the Sudetenland, a border area of what is now the Czech Republic.

What foolishness.  UBL is long since dead.  NO IMAGES since December 2002.  None!  For anyone to believe he is still sucking air is just plain silly.

CAIRO, Egypt -- Osama bin Laden said in a new audio recording released Friday that al-Qaida will continue its holy war against Israel and its allies until it liberates Palestine.

The terrorist leader's third statement this year came as President Bush was wrapping up his visit to Israel to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Jewish state.

Barak??   Hello???  Brak??  What's your plan Sir?  What's your plan.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - The United States and Israel agree on the need for "tangible action" to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's spokesman said after a visit by U.S. President George W. Bush.

"We are on the same page. We both see the threat ... And we both understand that tangible action is required to prevent the Iranians from moving forward on a nuclear weapon," Olmert spokesman Mark Regev said on Friday.

Saudis see no reason to raise oil production no now.

Will this be enough to encourage the Democrats to open the US to exploration for energy resources?? Somehow I doubt it.

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia - Saudi Arabia's leaders made clear Friday they see no reason to increase oil production until customers demand it, apparently rebuffing President Bush amid soaring U.S. gasoline prices.

The Death of the Washington Republican Party

Peggy Noon has it right, the Washington Republican Party is on its death bed and doesn't even realize it

Big picture, May 2008:

The Democrats aren't the ones falling apart, the Republicans are. The Democrats can see daylight ahead. For all their fractious fighting, they're finally resolving their central drama. Hillary Clinton will leave, and Barack Obama will deliver a stirring acceptance speech. Then hand-to-hand in the general, where they see their guy triumphing. You see it when you talk to them: They're busy being born.

The Republicans? Busy dying. The brightest of them see no immediate light. They're frozen, not like a deer in the headlights but a deer in the darkness, his ears stiff at the sound. Crunch. Twig. Hunting party.
