Biggest Tax Increase In World History - HUMAN EVENTS

by  Myron Ebell

05/27/2009

The House Energy and Commerce Committee on the evening of May 21 passed the biggest piece of the Obama administration and Congressional Democrats' agenda to put the federal government in charge of the American economy. On a 33 to 25 vote, the Committee approved the "American Clean Energy and Security Act," H. R. 2454. The 946-page energy-rationing bill is better known as Waxman-Markey, named after its two chief sponsors, Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Rep. Edward Markey (D-Mass.), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment.

While Waxman pushes his global warming bill, intent on tax Americans to death, our true source of warmth continues to be quiet.

April 1, 2009: The sunspot cycle is behaving a little like the stock market. Just when you think it has hit bottom, it goes even lower.

2008 was a bear. There were no sunspots observed on 266 of the year's 366 days (73%). To find a year with more blank suns, you have to go all the way back to 1913, which had 311 spotless days: plot. Prompted by these numbers, some observers suggested that the solar cycle had hit bottom in 2008.

Maybe not. Sunspot counts for 2009 have dropped even lower. As of March 31st, there were no sunspots on 78 of the year's 90 days (87%).

Millionaires Go Missing

Golly, who could have seen this coming??  I am shocked that productive people are finding ways to not give their hard earned cash to an out of control state government.  The bastards!!

Maryland's fleeced taxpayers fight back.

Here's a two-minute drill in soak-the-rich economics:

Maryland couldn't balance its budget last year, so the state tried to close the shortfall by fleecing the wealthy. Politicians in Annapolis created a millionaire tax bracket, raising the top marginal income-tax rate to 6.25%. And because cities such as Baltimore and Bethesda also impose income taxes, the state-local tax rate can go as high as 9.45%. Governor Martin O'Malley, a dedicated class warrior, declared that these richest 0.3% of filers were "willing and able to pay their fair share." The Baltimore Sun predicted the rich would "grin and bear it."

RED ALERT: Did anti-Obama campaign contributions dictate which Chrysler dealers were shuttered?

Taking out political enemies via dealership closures?? Nah, no one would ever think that this administration would do such a thing! I'm sure it's just a coincidence. Obama is here to save us not to take retribution. No, really!

RED ALERT: Did anti-Obama campaign contributions dictate which Chrysler dealers were shuttered?

A tipster alerted me to an interesting assertion. A cursory review by that person showed that many of the Chrysler dealers on the closing list were heavy Republican donors.
To quickly review the situation, I took all dealer owners whose names appeared more than once in the list. And, of those who contributed to political campaigns, every single one had donated almost exclusively to GOP candidates. While this isn't an exhaustive review, it does have some ominous implications if it can be verified.

Update:

Does Obama have a car dealer enemies list?

Additional information on the Chrysler closings - seems there are more than a few successful, high-profile Republicans and Libertarians on the closing list whose dealerships are growing - not shrinking. Things that make you want to go hummmmm! Surly the MSM will jump on this apparent abuse of power!!

Update 2:

They really couldn't be this stupid, could they?

Way back in the 1960s, Chrysler Corporation had a very successful ad campaign for its Dodge Division, portraying their Dodge dealers as “the good guys in the white hats.” Some ongoing research about the way the closings of Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealerships are being handled indicates that the Obama administration might think that some of the “good guys” are much better than others.
Since Doug Ross reported that many of the dealers on the list of Chrysler outlets to be closed were donors mostly to Republicans, attention has now been focused on the list of dealerships which are slated to remain open. Some preliminary findings, as well as related news, have bombshell potential.

Update 3

(H/T Gatewaypundit)

Even GOP Congressman Loses Chrysler Dealership ...Plus Peoria GOP Supporter Losing "5 Star" Business

More Hope and Change...
** Earlier it was reported that the Obama Administration may have targeted GOP donors in deciding which Chrysler dealerships would have to close their doors.
** Last night it was discovered that a Big Dem Donor Group was allowed to keep all 6 Chrysler dealerships open.... And, their local competitors were eliminated by Obama's task force.
** The closings also tend to be in "Red" Counties where Obama lost.

Now this...
Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-Fla) lost his Chrysler dealership in Florida.

Update 4
Is Obama closing GOP car dealers?
By: Mark TapscottEditorial Page Editor 5/27/09 9:36 PM There appears to be a side to the Chrysler bankruptcy that has the look of an ugly partisanship not seen in this town since Tricky Dick was in the White House composing his enemies list and checking it twice every night while watching the evening TV newscast.

A definitive chapter on the fallacy of man-made global warming/climate change.

"Our understanding of the natural world does not progress through the straight forward accumulation of facts because most scientists tend to gravitate to the established popular consensus also known as the established paradigm. Thomas Kuhn describes the development of scientific paradigms as comprising three stages: prescience, normal science and revolutionary science when there is a crisis in the current consensus.  A recipe for lawlessness

May 13, 2009 Posted by Paul at 4:48 PM

It's a fundamental principle of our legal system that cases are to be decided based on the facts and the law, not one's likes, dislikes, and sympathies. The rule of law depends on this principle, because people's likes, dislikes, and sympathies are idiosyncratic and thus unpredictable. And when legal outcomes become too unpredictable, the question of how to comply with the law becomes anyone's guess.

Democrats cheer defeat of Social Security reform.

Studies released today show the Social Security will run out of money much earlier than expected.  It has been a can kicked down the road for a lot of years, as shown by this 2006 video.  Who will ever make these folks answer for their deeds?

I would like to say the American people will hold them to account - sadly I do not believe they will.  They cheer the destruction of their children's future.

Obama lays our breast bare to our nuclear enemies

With ongoing nuclear weapons development going on in Iran, N. Korea, Russia and god only knows where else, Obama's response has been curious to say the least.  He has reduced spending on antimissile technology.  Reduced military spending in general.  And now, cut the program to insure the reliability of our existing nuclear weapons.  At what point do his actions become treasonous??

Obama Breaks With Gates, Cancels Nuke Program

Obama's new budget plan includes a little-noted sea change in U.S. nuclear policy, and a step towards his vision of a denuclearized world. It provides no funding for the Reliable Replacement Warhead program, created to design a new generation of long-lasting nuclear weapons that don't need to be tested. (The military is worried that a nuclear test moratorium in effect since 1992 might endanger the reliability of an aging US arsenal.) But this spring Obama issued a bold call for a world free of nuclear weapons, and part of that vision entails leading by example. That means halting programs that expand the American nuclear stockpile. For the past two budget years the Democratic Congress has refused to fund the Bush-era program. But Obama's budget kills the National Nuclear Security Administration program once and for all.

There are various entities in the Federal government that look at the financial status of the government (OBM, CBO, etc).  ”Budget” is simply a prediction of future spending and receipts, and whether or not it is balanced is determined by what actually happens, not what is forecast to happen.

Doctors Are Opting Out of Medicare

Finding a Doctor Who Accepts Medicare Isn’t Easy - NYTimes.com

By JULIE CONNELLY

Published: April 1, 2009

EARLY this year, Barbara Plumb, a freelance editor and writer in New York who is on Medicare, received a disturbing letter. Her gynecologist informed her that she was opting out of Medicare. When Ms. Plumb asked her primary-care doctor to recommend another gynecologist who took Medicare, the doctor responded that she didn’t know any — and that if Ms. Plumb found one she liked, could she call and tell her the name?

Cold, Cold Health Care

By Carol Peracchio

And he's not cool. He's cold. This is a cold, cold guy.
- Rush Limbaugh

Last year I read that Barack Obama not only voted against, but vigorously fought the passage in Illinois of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act (BAIPA). This bill addressed the situation when an abortion results in a live baby. BAIPA stated all live born babies are guaranteed the same constitutional right to equal protection whether or not they were wanted. The Federal version of this legislation passed the Senate unanimously. Yet Barack Obama voted against this legislation not once but several times.

Dem Congresswoman Admits Obama Health Care Plan Will Destroy Private Health Insurance Industry

“I know many of you here today are single payer advocates and so am I … and those of us who are pushing for a public health insurance don’t disagree with this goal. This is not a principled fight. This is a fight about strategy for getting there and I believe we will,” Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) told a group of government-run health care supporters on April 18.

RealClearPolitics - The Attack On Doctors' Hippocratic Oath

At least the Obama administration is consistent on treatment of the gravely ill - just let them die.

The Attack On Doctors' Hippocratic Oath

By Betsy McCaughey

Patients count on their doctor to do whatever is possible to treat their illness. That is the promise doctors make by taking the Hippocratic Oath.

But President Obama's advisers are looking to save money by interfering with that oath and controlling your doctor's decisions.

Ezekiel Emanuel sees the Hippocratic Oath as one factor driving "overuse" of medical care. He is a policy adviser in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and a brother of Rahm Emanuel, the president's chief of staff.

CANADIAN DOCTORS DEMAND MORE PAY - New York Times

What will your doctor be willing to work for under a socialized healthcare system?  Would they work for $53,000 per year??

CANADIAN DOCTORS DEMAND MORE PAY - New York Times

By HENRY GINIGER, SPECIAL TO THE NEW YORK TIMES

Published: April 25, 1982

Medicare, Canada's publicly financed comprehensive health system, is once again being battered by thousands of angry doctors agitating for higher incomes.

In Ontario, Canada's largest province, 15,000 doctors have been staying away from their offices or refusing to perform some services, such as prescribing drugs by telephone. Some 5,500 general practitioners in Quebec, the second largest province, are threatening to close their offices for a day next week.

........

Well before the cuts, doctors' incomes were losing ground to those of other professional groups, the Medical Association says. It cited tax figures indicating that between 1971 and 1977 lawyers, dentists and accountants increased their incomes at a much faster rate than doctors. In Ontario, according to an association spokesman, the average net income for a doctor is about $53,000 a year.

A Canadian Doctor Describes How Socialized Medicine Doesn't Work

July 26, 2007

By David Gratzer

I was once a believer in socialized medicine. As a Canadian, I had soaked up the belief that government–run health care was truly compassionate. What I knew about American health care was unappealing: high expenses and lots of uninsured people.

My health care prejudices crumbled on the way to a medical school class. On a subzero Winnipeg morning in 1997, I cut across the hospital emergency room to shave a few minutes off my frigid commute.

Swinging open the door, I stepped into a nightmare: the ER overflowed with elderly people on stretchers, waiting for admission. Some, it turned out, had waited five days. The air stank with sweat and urine. Right then, I began to reconsider everything that I thought I knew about Canadian health care.

TARP Looking More Criminal by the Minute by Donald Luskin on NRO Financial

What could possibly go wrong with TARP funding? The government needs the authority to save the banks. We have to pass it now!!! Something about absolute power corrupting absolutely comes to mind.

TARP Looking More Criminal by the Minute by Donald Luskin on NRO Financial

The issue of TARP corruption may now extend from corporate CEOs and federal regulators to New York’s attorney general.
By Donald Luskin

Is TARP a criminal enterprise? When a CNBC producer called me on Wednesday to see if I’d debate that question on the Kudlow Report that evening, I thought the allegation was ridiculous. How could the U.S. Treasury’s Troubled Assets Relief Program to rescue the banking system possibly be compared to the Sopranos?
But now I’m not so sure. Yesterday’s sensational claims by New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo — that Ken Lewis, CEO of TARP-recipient Bank of America, was pressured into what amounts to securities fraud by the Treasury and the Federal Reserve concerning his bank’s acquisition of Merrill Lynch — throws the question right into the headlines. It raises issues of corruption all around, and at the highest levels — from corporate CEOs and federal regulators to Mr. Cuomo himself.

Does anyone actually study history anymore?

A cartoon scan from the Chicago Tribune - 1934.  Thanks to Barry for this gem.

Iowa's Attorney General expects Iowans to ignore their conscience or face criminal charges.

I live in a wonderful state filled with kind and hard working people.  It is a state that lives family values, one of which is a belief that marriage is a sacrament that unites a man and a woman.  Through the results of a trial and the decision of our Supreme Court, we Iowans now discover that this is simply an error in our judgement and that beginning April 27th court recorders that refuse to issue marriage licenses may be prosecuted.  Of course, Iowa has a "right of conscience" statute but it seems the AG has little interest in that.  I suspect this will lead to more court time, more trials, more judicial decisions.  How about this - let the people vote or, at the least, let their elected legislators vote.

Attorney general: 'We must live by and follow what the courts decide'

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller is warning the county recorders' offices in his state that workers must process "marriage" licenses for same-sex duos or face possible charges in a court of law.

"If necessary, we will explore legal actions to enforce and implement the court's ruling, working with the Iowa Dept. of Public Health and county attorneys," he warned on his website.

But an announcement today from a statewide pro-family organization and a public interest law firm with a reach that goes around the world means the issue of same-sex weddings eventually could end up back in court.

The statements from Miller relate to the state Supreme Court's decision that Iowa must provide same-sex couples access to the state's marriage processes.
