RealClearPolitics - The Attack On Doctors' Hippocratic Oath

At least the Obama administration is consistent on treatment of the gravely ill - just let them die.

The Attack On Doctors' Hippocratic Oath

By Betsy McCaughey

Patients count on their doctor to do whatever is possible to treat their illness. That is the promise doctors make by taking the Hippocratic Oath.

But President Obama's advisers are looking to save money by interfering with that oath and controlling your doctor's decisions.

Ezekiel Emanuel sees the Hippocratic Oath as one factor driving "overuse" of medical care. He is a policy adviser in the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and a brother of Rahm Emanuel, the president's chief of staff.

CANADIAN DOCTORS DEMAND MORE PAY - New York Times

What will your doctor be willing to work for under a socialized healthcare system?  Would they work for $53,000 per year??

CANADIAN DOCTORS DEMAND MORE PAY - New York Times

By HENRY GINIGER, SPECIAL TO THE NEW YORK TIMES

Published: April 25, 1982

Medicare, Canada's publicly financed comprehensive health system, is once again being battered by thousands of angry doctors agitating for higher incomes.

In Ontario, Canada's largest province, 15,000 doctors have been staying away from their offices or refusing to perform some services, such as prescribing drugs by telephone. Some 5,500 general practitioners in Quebec, the second largest province, are threatening to close their offices for a day next week.

........

Well before the cuts, doctors' incomes were losing ground to those of other professional groups, the Medical Association says. It cited tax figures indicating that between 1971 and 1977 lawyers, dentists and accountants increased their incomes at a much faster rate than doctors. In Ontario, according to an association spokesman, the average net income for a doctor is about $53,000 a year.

A Canadian Doctor Describes How Socialized Medicine Doesn't Work

July 26, 2007

By David Gratzer

I was once a believer in socialized medicine. As a Canadian, I had soaked up the belief that government–run health care was truly compassionate. What I knew about American health care was unappealing: high expenses and lots of uninsured people.

My health care prejudices crumbled on the way to a medical school class. On a subzero Winnipeg morning in 1997, I cut across the hospital emergency room to shave a few minutes off my frigid commute.

Swinging open the door, I stepped into a nightmare: the ER overflowed with elderly people on stretchers, waiting for admission. Some, it turned out, had waited five days. The air stank with sweat and urine. Right then, I began to reconsider everything that I thought I knew about Canadian health care.

TARP Looking More Criminal by the Minute by Donald Luskin on NRO Financial

What could possibly go wrong with TARP funding? The government needs the authority to save the banks. We have to pass it now!!! Something about absolute power corrupting absolutely comes to mind.

TARP Looking More Criminal by the Minute by Donald Luskin on NRO Financial

The issue of TARP corruption may now extend from corporate CEOs and federal regulators to New York’s attorney general.
By Donald Luskin

Is TARP a criminal enterprise? When a CNBC producer called me on Wednesday to see if I’d debate that question on the Kudlow Report that evening, I thought the allegation was ridiculous. How could the U.S. Treasury’s Troubled Assets Relief Program to rescue the banking system possibly be compared to the Sopranos?
But now I’m not so sure. Yesterday’s sensational claims by New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo — that Ken Lewis, CEO of TARP-recipient Bank of America, was pressured into what amounts to securities fraud by the Treasury and the Federal Reserve concerning his bank’s acquisition of Merrill Lynch — throws the question right into the headlines. It raises issues of corruption all around, and at the highest levels — from corporate CEOs and federal regulators to Mr. Cuomo himself.

Iowa's Attorney General expects Iowans to ignore their conscience or face criminal charges.

I live in a wonderful state filled with kind and hard working people.  It is a state that lives family values, one of which is a belief that marriage is a sacrament that unites a man and a woman.  Through the results of a trial and the decision of our Supreme Court, we Iowans now discover that this is simply an error in our judgement and that beginning April 27th court recorders that refuse to issue marriage licenses may be prosecuted.  Of course, Iowa has a "right of conscience" statute but it seems the AG has little interest in that.  I suspect this will lead to more court time, more trials, more judicial decisions.  How about this - let the people vote or, at the least, let their elected legislators vote.

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller is warning the county recorders' offices in his state that workers must process "marriage" licenses for same-sex duos or face possible charges in a court of law.

"If necessary, we will explore legal actions to enforce and implement the court's ruling, working with the Iowa Dept. of Public Health and county attorneys," he warned on his website.

But an announcement today from a statewide pro-family organization and a public interest law firm with a reach that goes around the world means the issue of same-sex weddings eventually could end up back in court.

The statements from Miller relate to the state Supreme Court's decision that Iowa must provide same-sex couples access to the state's marriage processes.

Obama legal team wants defendants' rights limited

By MARK SHERMAN
Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Obama administration is asking the Supreme Court to overrule long-standing law that stops police from initiating questions unless a defendant's lawyer is present, another stark example of the White House seeking to limit rather than expand rights.

The administration's action - and several others - have disappointed civil rights and civil liberties groups that expected President Barack Obama to reverse the policies of his Republican predecessor, George W. Bush, after the Democrat's call for change during the 2008 campaign.

Hillary Clinton Defends Worldwide Abortion Rights

Thursday, April 23, 2009 6:55 PM

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, testifying in Congress, defended the right to abortion worldwide and the Obama administration's decision to finance family planning overseas.

Clinton stood her ground against Christopher Smith, a Republican lawmaker from New Jersey who strongly opposes abortion.

Smith, speaking during Clinton's first hearing in the House Foreign Affairs Committee since she became top diplomat, asked if President Barack Obama's team sought to influence African and South American countries on abortion.

"Congressman, I deeply respect your passionate concern and views which you have championed and advocated for over the course of your public career," Clinton told him.

"We, obviously, have a profound disagreement," the chief US diplomat said.

It seems like cap and trade is going to enter the discussion phase.

The true root of this is policy is simply dollars in the US treasury.  However, the tool being used to hammer things through is the increase in CO2 caused by man and the claim that unless this is reduced, the planet is doomed.  To say that the argument lacks any use of the scientific method would be this years greatest understatement.  I am a person of science.  Any threat that is being used to change our entire way of life and that will subject our economy to a crippling taxes should, at the very least, stand up under analysis by anyone using the scientific method.  It simply does not.  Period.

Why not?  Honestly, the amount of CO2 generated by man, is so infinitesimal that it has, for all intents and purposes, zero effect on the atmosphere.  But, how to explain this so folks can wrap their heads around it.  I have been toying with that for some time and settled on using a small local lake as an example.

Within a mile of my home there is a small 150 acre county park.  Within it is a 22 acre lake.  The question I asked myself is:  How many gallons of lake water would represent the amount of CO2 generated by man in the atmosphere.  The following is my logic and math.  Any and all are certainly welcome to check my numbers.

Let the show trials begin!

The Big "O" opened the gates today to allow Holder to begin hearings on the conduct to folks in the Bush administration who wrote the findings allowing "torture" such as water-boarding, sleep deprivation and physical stress to occur to gather information from our enemies.  It was obvious it was coming as can be seen in the account below.  But the naivete of this man is stunning.  the UBL phrase "weak horse" keeps running through my mind.  While the Big "O" sees the continual criticism of the US and it's policies as a tool to show the world change has come, our enemies will see weakness and opportunity.  As I have said over and over, we are going to pay a terrible price for this man's ignorance, stupidity and anti-American attitude.

Obama gives Holder the green light for the left’s long-sought show trials

Show trial: a trial (as of political opponents) in which the verdict is rigged and a public confession is often extractedMerriam-Webster Online Dictionary

President Obama was presented with another opportunity to rule out political retribution dressed up as investigations of the looney left-wing’s fanciful allegations of Bush administration war-crimes.

Instead of standing by his previous obfuscation that “we need to look forward as opposed to looking backwards,” Obama gave a green light to Attorney General Holder to start the show trials — a political theater relic of Joseph Stalin’s Great Purge of political opponents from the former Soviet Union.

Watch the following CBS video report:

The deliberate weakening of our sovereignty by the Obama administration continues.

Janet Napolitano decides crossing our border without authorization is not a crime - no, really - it's not a crime.  Via Malkin from the weekend interview of Napolitano on Larry King:

She said this on CNN over the weekend:

KING: A lot of Democrats in Congress want to you investigate [Joe Arpaio]. They think he is over the line. He says he is just enforcing the law and the problem is the federal government.

NAPOLITANO: Well, you know, Sheriff Joe, he is being very political in that statement, because he knows that there aren’t enough law enforcement officers, courtrooms or jail cells in the world to do what he is saying.

What we have to do is target the real evil-doers in this business, the employers who consistently hire illegal labor, the human traffickers who are exploiting human misery.

And yes, when we find illegal workers, yes, appropriate action, some of which is criminal, most of that is civil, because crossing the border is not a crime per se. It is civil. But anyway, going after those as well.

Well, today the Ninth Circuit (the federal appellate court covering most Western states) ruled that the Second Amendment restricts the power of state and local governments to interfere with individual right to have guns for personal use.  That is, the Fourteenth Amendment “incorporates” the Second Amendment against the states, as the Supreme Court has found it to do for most of the Bill of Rights.  I rarely get a chance to say this, but the Ninth Circuit gets it exactly right.

Computer Spies Breach Fighter-Jet Project - WSJ.com

I don't know why this is happening!  The Big "O" has made nice with everyone, fessed up to what a crappy country we are, apologized for all the world's ills and promised we won't do any bad things again.  And still, some meanies continue to invade our weapons projects, our government's computers and our electrical grid!  What more do they want???  Meanies!!

Computer Spies Breach Fighter-Jet Project

By SIOBHAN GORMAN, AUGUST COLE and YOCHI DREAZEN

WASHINGTON -- Computer spies have broken into the Pentagon's $300 billion Joint Strike Fighter project -- the Defense Department's costliest weapons program ever -- according to current and former government officials familiar with the attacks.

Similar incidents have also breached the Air Force's air-traffic-control system in recent months, these people say. In the case of the fighter-jet program, the intruders were able to copy and siphon off several terabytes of data related to design and electronics systems, officials say, potentially making it easier to defend against the craft.

The latest intrusions provide new evidence that a battle is heating up between the U.S. and potential adversaries over the data networks that tie the world together. The revelations follow a recent Wall Street Journal report that computers used to control the U.S. electrical-distribution system, as well as other infrastructure, have also been infiltrated by spies abroad.

Is Your Minister a 'Hate Crime' Peddler? - HUMAN EVENTS

by  Andrea Lafferty

04/21/2009

The George Orwell congress resumed its session yesterday.  Not content to attempt to end the secret ballot by the “Employee Free Choice Act,”  the House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to mark up and pass the equally-Orwellian “Hate Crimes” bill, HR 1913.
Just as the “Employee Free Choice Act” would end free choice, the “Hate Crimes” bill would criminalize free speech.  No, it’s not another version of the “Fairness Doctrine” – which is fair to all except conservatives.  The “Hate Crimes” bill wants to criminalize speech that insults politically-fashionable minorities, such as gays.

What do you mean those terrorists are dangerous?? Look again and this time - find the right answer!

The Big "O" asked the security agencies to review the GITMO detainees and find the easy ones to simply release.  What if there aren't any??  Well hell, just keep looking at them until you say they are ready for release - regardless of the evidence.  Painful lessons are in the offing, painful indeed.

Obama declines to take "yes" for an answer on detaining terrorists

April 20, 2009 Posted by Paul at 8:34 AM

Jeb Babbin reports that "White House lawyers are refusing to accept the findings of an inter-agency committee that the Uighur Chinese Muslims held at Guantanamo Bay are too dangerous to release inside the U.S."

After President Obama promised to close Gitmo, the White House ordered an inter-agency review of the status of all the detainees. Apparently, it believed that many of those held would be quickly determined releasable. If so, this belief was perhaps naive, considering that a large percentage of the detainees, presumably the comparatively "innocuous" ones, had already been released (some of whom promptly returned to their terrorist ways).

It seems I’m an extremist.

So it seems I am a right wing extremist. The latest warning from DHS has a number of concerns and a number of flags that seems to point directly at me. Let’s list them off.

I am a veteran – not only that, I am one of those there Vietnam Veterans and we all know how “they” are. I am one of those medal winners and a lifer to boot. A real danger if ever I saw one. First Square filled – Veteran.

AP4I have an assault weapon. Brand new, just outta the box. A Panther Arms LR-308 AP4. It will take down just about anything on 2 or 4 legs  with a single round out to 200 yards. With my new EOTECH 512, simply putting the 1 MOA dot on your target ensures a solid hit out to 200 yards. Since target acquisition is done with both eyes open situational awareness is easily maintained. Second square filled – owns an assault weapon.

1911May pack a pistol. Well, in my case a .357, .22, .45 or 9mm. To add to the concern, I am one of those concealed carry permit holders. Yep, I can legally walk around with all this fire power tucked in my pants. (humm, that doesn’t sound quite right, does it). Third square filled – packs a pistol.

May spend time at a shooting range. Hummm – does a thousand rounds a year count as range time? Actually closer to two thousand if you count the lowly .22. And now with the new AP4, I suspect even more time will be needed. So check four – range time.

May be anti-abortion. Well, since I consider an abortion killing a human I suspect I fill check five.

obama deficitsUnhappy with the government. Gee – what could I find fault with? A President and Congress about to run a 2 trillion dollar deficit this year alone, 5 times more that our nation has run during its entire history, I would have to say I am a bit pissed off. Check six.

Isn’t it interesting that this administration can point their finger towards our nation’s citizens and imply that many veterans and concerned citizens are a terrorist threat while the word “terrorist” no longer applies to the Islamofacists still very much interested in inflicting death and pain on our country.  Obviously The Big “O” has a few life lessons to learn yet – they will be painful lessons – for all of us.

Democrat Healthcare Plan to reduce costs: If you are too sick, we will let you die.

Well Duh.  Did anyone ever doubt this was the case??  President Obama has shown no resistance to killing the unborn, why wouldn't he kill the elderly??  It just makes so much sense!

New Dem Health Care Pitch: "We'll Deny Treatments!"

Democratic blogger Ezra Klein appears to be positioning Dem health care reforms as a way to cut costs, on the grounds that a reformed system will be able to make "hard choices" and "rational" coverage decisions, by which Klein seems to mean "not providing" treatments that are unproven or too expensive--when "a person's life, or health, is not worth the price." Matthew Yglesias' recent post seems to be saying the same thing, though clarity isn't its strong suit. (He must have left it on Journolist.)

Who's Laughing at the ‘Axis of Evil’ today?

As Byron York points out, lots of funny people had quite a laugh over President Bush's phrase "axis of evil" and he presents a fairly straightforward argument for it.  I want to take a little different angle.

Over the last 7 years of his Presidency, Bush essentially conducted three different experiments on how to deal with the AOE, direct intervention, delegation and negotiation.

Iraq is his direct intervention experiment.  While the left will never admit it, it is a success my all measure, in particular the three clear markers laid down by Bush:  elimination of Saddam and his government, free and fair elections and the ability to defend themselves.   Our troops have succeeded by ever measure.

He also experimented with delegation by allowing the UN and the EU to conduct negotiations with Iran to end their nuclear weapons programs.  So today they have 7,000 centrifuges (they started with zero), a fully functional nuclear plant, a missile capable of putting a satellite in orbit, an advanced air defense system and a president who has clearly stated his primary goal of eliminating Israel from this planet even if it would mean the loss of 1/2 of his population.  A clear failure as a method of dealing with the AOE.

The final experiment was negotiation.  President Bush was continually beat up about not talking with North Korea.  So, he embarked on six-party talks which boxed North Korea into saying the same thing to all six parties at the same time.  Rather than playing one against the other, it forced a "good faith" negotiation between the parties.  The response of the North Koreans was predictable, they simply talked and grumble and continued their efforts - with the help of Iran as well.  The result of this path?  The recent launch of a long-range ICBM, a solid next step in technology that can endanger their neighbors as well as those of other countries around the world as they sell this technology to other states.  The continued efforts in the development of nuclear weapons material - they currently have enough material for an estimated 15 nuclear bombs, the reopening of their processing facility and the tossing out of the UN inspection team.  Yet another clear failure.

President Obama is left with a clear choice and clear results in this experiment.  The entire world can see which method crafted the best results for the safety of the world.  And yet, the world allows the clock to keep ticking.  The final result will be no laughing matter.

Who's Laughing at the ‘Axis of Evil’ today?

There are undoubtedly people who have a more vivid memory of Will Farrell’s "Saturday Night Live" version of the "Axis of Evil" — the one in which Farrell, as President George W. Bush, denounced Iran, Iraq and "one of those Koreas" — than of the real thing from Bush's 2002 State of the Union address. A lot of comedians made a lot of fun of the "Axis of Evil" concept. But now, more than seven years later, it's looking pretty solid.

China congratulates NKorea's Kim on re-election

Well of course the do!  The Bin "O's" hope to get this guy to stop building missiles are sure to put pressure on him to stop - right??

China congratulates NKorea's Kim on re-election

Chinese President Hu Jintao congratulated Kim Jong-Il on his re-election as leader of North Korea, state media said Saturday, amid widespread international condemnation of Pyongyang's rocket launch.

Hu said in a message that Kim's re-election on Thursday as chairman of the powerful National Defence Commission is an "expression of sincere support and profound trust", Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

Why does this all sound so painfully familiar??

I am watching with sad amusement as events unfold with Somali pirates.  Amusement because The Big "O" is being bitch slapped by four men in a row boat.  Sad, because the stakes are real, the threat to the life of the captain is real and The Big "O" is way out of his league.

It sounds familiar because we have been in this place before.  With a weak president filled with lofty rhetoric an sadly lacking in real courage.  His actions lead to Blackhawk Down and the second, more successful, bombing of the WTC because he projected weakness, he was hesitant, basically, he showed the world that America was the home of the pussy,- - not the home of the brave.

And, as this morning, yet another capture of another boat by another team of pirates in the same region.  The Big "O" is on it!

Obama Team Mulls Aims Of Somali Extremists

Senior Obama administration officials are debating how to address a potential terrorist threat to U.S. interests from a Somali extremist group, with some in the military advocating strikes against its training camps. But many officials maintain that uncertainty about the intentions of the al-Shabab organization dictates a more patient, nonmilitary approach.

Does the the phrase "weak house" ring a bell??  You need to go back to December 2001 and an interview with UBL on what encouraged him to attack the WTC and what he saw in Clinton's response in Somalia - a weak horse.  By way of CNN:

UBL: (...Inaudible...) when people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature, they will like the strong horse. This is only one goal; those who want people to worship the lord of the people, without following that doctrine, will be following the doctrine of Muhammad, peace be upon him. (UBL quotes several short and incomplete Hadith verses, as follows): "I was ordered to fight the people until they say there is no god but Allah, and his prophet Muhammad." "Some people may ask: why do you want to fight us?" "There is an association between those who say: I believe in one god and Muhammad is his prophet, and those who don't (...inaudible...) "Those who do not follow the true fiqh. The fiqh of Muhammad, the real fiqh. They are just accepting what is being said at face value."

I wonder if after The Big "O's" apology tour, his kneeling to the protector of Mecca and Medina, saying we are not at war with Islam we are seen as a "strong horse" or a "weak horse".  Hummmmm - strong horse, weak horse - strong horse, weak horse.  Which could our enemies see??

Cultural divide: Mosque doesn't agree with restaurant's plan to serve alcohol

By Jessie Pounds
Sunday, April 5, 2009

It's a Fort Sanders clash of cultures and good intentions.

On one side of the disagreement is a Muslim mosque, and some of its worshippers are unhappy about plans for a new restaurant that will serve alcohol.

On the opposing end of the clash is a business owner who says he's invested $1 million to upgrade a blighted building and has tried to accommodate Muslim worshippers during spiritual holidays.

The two entities - The Hill restaurant and the Anoor mosque - are a mere 191 feet apart.

Building owner Trevor Hill wants to offer alcoholic drinks along with home-cooking-style dinner and lunch menus, and he hopes to launch the eatery in about a week. He'll keep the restaurant open as late at night as is still profitable in hope of appealing to the young residents of Fort Sanders, where the building is located.

The possibility that the restaurant could serve as a local drinking hangout bothers mosque attendees like board member Nadeem Sidiqqi.

Officials are mulling whether the U.S. will reverse course and allow Iran to carry out uranium enrichment to produce nuclear fuel only, not weapons-grade material, according to a report in London’s Financial Times.

Such a concession, being considered as part of a policy review by President Barack Obama, would be a sea change from the Bush administration’s hard-line policy of forbidding uranium enrichment per se.

Wars take many forms.

We are in a "shooting" war with China.  They have engaged in espionage for decades.  The Internet has allowed them to attack at will while raising few alarms.  Here is a glimpse at the front lines.

GhostNet reminds us that China is the enemy.

pic

Last weekend, a report by researchers at the Munk Center of the University of Toronto revealed "GhostNet," a computer espionage virus that had infected around 1,300 computers worldwide--including many "high value" targets where diplomatic and national security information was stored. The attack focused on computers in Southern Asia and offices belonging to the Dalai Lama, exiled leader of China-occupied Tibet. GhostNet-infected machines were controlled by computers located in the People's Republic. Experts disagree on whether the evidence proves China's guilt or merely suggests it overwhelmingly. Either way, the most important message goes far beyond computer espionage.

Consent of the Governed

When our founders were drafting the Constitution and determining the form of government they wanted for this new country, they evaluated two primary types, Democracies and Republics. Their paramount concern when choosing a path for this new government was that the leaders and direction would be determined by the “consent of the governed”. Let that phrase sink in for a moment: “consent of the governed”. They were particularly interested in Greek democracy and its failure. This was their primary example for a direct democracy - where virtually all decisions were made by the direct and individual vote by each citizen. They decided that its failure in Greece came about in part because it was impossible for each citizen to be fully informed on each and every topic and that their votes, while certainly cast by the governed, were cast by people knowingly ignorant of the issue and thus cast without a full understanding of what they were voting for.

They chose as their direction a Republic. The governed would be represented by individuals that were directly elected by them or by individuals selected by people the governed had elected. These were local people, people they had the opportunity to know, to talk to. People raised in their region that shared their sense of values. People whose primary reason for standing for election was a sincere desire to serve their friends by serving in their nation’s government, and then leaving office and returning to their community – to be replaced by another civil servant. This rotation of people was to ensure that those elected would remain tied to their home communities rather than being consumed by the power of the federal government. Thus the “consent of the governed” would be refreshed with each new legislator sent off to the federal government.

The other advantage of a republic was that this elected and trustworthy neighbor would be able to devote their efforts to understanding the legislation presented for consideration. Rather than each individual citizen of the 13 colonies being required to understand the content of each and every bill introduced, argued and voted on, the belief was that since the elected representative and each selected (in the early days) senator would naturally have the best interests of their constituents at heart and cast their vote with these interests in mind.

This approach then met the test of “consent of the governed”. The Representative Republic was born.

So how is this working today? Honestly, I have more than a few concerns. While I am certainly as partisan as they come, and proudly so, this particular issue rises above partisanship and directly effects the ability of our country to survive as the Representative Republic it was meant to be. Let me share a few examples that concern me:

This week’s ruling by the Iowa Supreme Court that gay marriage is an “equal treatment under the law” issue and now legal within the state of Iowa. My frustration is not with the verdict, though I support civil unions and not marriage for gays, but with the simple fact the people of Iowa had no say in the matter. This was an argument generated out of whole cloth by a single court verdict and elevated to the Supreme Court of Iowa level. A decision made, not by the people of Iowa, but by a single court. This is not “consent of the governed” but rather a single branch of government imposing its will on the governed.

Next, the current flurry of bailouts throughout our country. I have run my small business in Vinton for nearly 28 years. At times, frankly, I have struggled mightily. Yet, if I would have reached a point where I could have not continued, I would have simply been forced to close my doors and fail. Now, we find that TRILLIONS of dollars of the American taxpayer is being used to prop up companies that are failing. The housing bailout called TARP was created in weeks this past fall, ran over one thousand pages in length and was voted on without a single Legislator or Senator having actually read the bill. It passed. And was promptly changed by then Secretary Paulson without the consent of congress. And it still isn’t working with over 25% of newly refinanced home loans already in default for a second time. How does voting for a bill, without fully reading and understanding it, costing trillions of our hard earned dollars, pass the “consent of the governed” test?

Third, the Federal Reserve printing a TRILLION dollars in money to purchase even more bad loans from banks on the brink of bankruptcy. This was an act, executed with no debate at all. Article 1 of the Constitution clearly states that all bills regarding raising revenue must begin in the House of Representatives. Honestly, I am unclear how the Fed can simply print a trillion dollars. Regardless, again, how does this decrease in the value of the dollar, without any debate by any elected official represent the “consent of the governed"?

Forth, the auto bailout. We, the people, now own GM and Chrysler. And we paid too much – over 30 BILLION to date. If you went on the stock exchange, purchased every piece of stock – EVERY SINGLE, SOLITIARY PIECE OF STOCK AVAILABLE ON THE PLANET – you would only spend $1.28 billion as of Friday, April 3rd. We have spent 23 times more on GM than it is worth. By what possible description is this a good deal?? And, they are asking for more – much more. Was there a single vote for the initial round of GM bailout money? Nope, not a single vote, only then President Bush’s signature. Again, referring to the goal of the founders that our elected representatives would serve the best needs of their constituents, how does spending this amount of American’s hard earned money on a company in failure meet the “consent of the governed”? Would you buy GM stock??

Let’s not forget our energy needs. The people of America have spoken in a loud voice, use our own resources and stop depending on foreign countries with anything but our well-being on their mind. And yet, even with the expiration of the off-shore drilling ban this past October, members of congress are moving quickly to reinstate it. How does this further our national security? Our resources – oil, coal, natural gas, nuclear – should be used to their fullest to ensure our ability to grow and exist as a nation. I am confused when a clear majority of Americans are in favor of using these resources and the Congress’s stubbornly resisting this meets the “consent of the governed” test.

Illegal immigration and the security of our borders. This is certainly a hot-button issue that has its flames fanned by both sides of the issue. However, it is a perfect example of how “consent of the governed” could quite simply resolve the issue. The issue has never revolved around the idea of immigration. All of us are here because, originally, one of our ancestors left the “old country” and immigrated to the US. And, we have long had laws in place that handled this exact issue. There are very clear procedures in place that states the process that needs to be followed when immigrating to the US as well as quotas from each country. If these laws need to change, if the quotas need to be raised – then present these to the American people. Have the legislators discuss this with the people of their district – and the change them. Offering a blanket amnesty of people who have violated the laws of our country does not – by any stretch of the imagination – meet the “consent of the governed”. Additionally, the vast majority of Americans want a secure border with Mexico – period. One of the basic duties of the government of the United States is to secure our borders. The fact that our Congress and numerous administrations fail to do this single task seems to fly in the face of the “consent of the governed”.

There are a large number of other examples where I, or friends, have commented that they simply didn’t know how the government could do “that” – whatever “that” was in the moment. The truth is, they can’t. Our elected officials serve at our pleasure. They are expected to listen to the folks back home, to actually read the bills they vote for, to understand the effects of the legislation they pass and to honor their position as servants of the people each and every day they are in office. They have forgotten. Our federal and state governments are in the midst of a spending orgy the likes of which we, as a country, have never seen. The Obama administration is proposing a budget that spends more money than all of the previous administrations combined. Their own CBO has estimated annual budget deficits of over a TRILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR as far as they can predict into the future. We will be passing on to our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren a debt that they will simply be unable to pay. I do not believe, in my heart, that this is the wish of any American. We need to remind ourselves that these folks are in office by the “consent of the governed” and that they answer to us. If we, as citizens, are expected to live within our budgets, we expect to have our government do so as well.

Can Obama shut down the Internet?

Some interesting little tidbits in this proposed legislation - like providing the Commerece Secretary full access to network data without regard to privacy laws.  No reason to fear that, right??  Pay no attention - move along, move along.

When Mother Jones and Jules Crittenden agree, isn’t that a sign of the apocalypse?  Both take a hard look at the Cybersecurity Act of 2009, S.773 sponsored by Jay Rockefeller (D-WV), Bill Nelson (D-FL), and Olympia Snowe (R-ME).  The bill addresses the need to protect vital networks from cyber attack, but it gives a lot of power to the executive branch — perhaps too much power.

John Crace: The question that flummoxed the great orator | World news | The Guardian

What did Presidential historian Michael Beschloss say??  Something like the the Big "O" being the smartest man to have ever run for president??  He was chatting with Imus.  When challenged on the Big "O's" IQ his response was that he didn't actually know what it was.  Seems like even the far left Guardian is seeing the canyons appearing in the Bit "O's" persona and the whole IQ thing.  ROTFLMAO!!

The question that flummoxed the great orator

John Crace, The Guardian, Friday 3 April 2009

Barack Obama, the World's Greatest Orator (™all news organisations), didn't exactly cover himself in glory when the BBC's political editor Nick Robinson asked him a question about who was to blame for the financial crisis. Normally word perfect, Obama ummed, ahed and waffled for the best part of two and a half minutes. Here, John Crace decodes what he was really thinking ...

Unanimous ruling: Iowa marriage no longer limited to one man, one woman

Consent of the people??  We don't need no stinking consent of the people!

Unanimous ruling: Iowa marriage no longer limited to one man, one woman | DesMoinesRegister.com

Basic fairness and constitutional equal protection were the linchpins of Friday’s historic Iowa Supreme Court ruling that overturned a 10-year-old ban on same-sex marriage and puts Iowa squarely in the center of the nation’s debate over gay rights.
The unanimous, 69-page decision maintains a church’s right to decide who can be married under its roof, but it runs counter to the expressed opinion of a majority of Iowans who believe marriage is defined as the union of one man and one woman.

Change you can believe in - Obama bows and kisses the hand of the Saudi King.

I can't even imagine what our President is thinking.  Showing subservience to the Saudi King.  As I have said in the past, we are going to pay a terrible price as a nation for electing this man.
