Just a reminder that Barack Obama still has the inaptly named Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) on his plate. During the campaign Obama promised to work on the act as one of his first efforts as president. For those unaware, this law would take away the rights of parents to be notified when their children are undergoing abortions, will cancel state laws against partial birth abortion and nationalize rules governing abortion. It will force taxpayer funding for abortion nationwide and force all hospitals and healthcare facilities run by religious organizations to act against their religious principles by forcing them to become abortion mills.

Leon Panetta will appear next week before the Senate Intelligence Committee for his confirmation hearings to become director of the Central Intelligence Agency. His testimony will be the first opportunity for senators to ask tough questions about President Obama's decisions last week to begin rolling back the Bush administration's counterterrorism policies, including dismantling the CIA program to detain and question senior terrorist leaders captured in the war on terror.

An al-Qaeda cell killed by the Black Death may have been developing biological weapons when it was infected, it has been reported.

The group of 40 terrorists were reported to have been killed by the plague at a training camp in Algeria earlier this month.

It was initially believed that they could have caught the disease through fleas on rats attracted by poor living conditions in their forest hideout.

But there are now claims the cell was developing the disease as a weapon to use against western cities.

As the Ford Motor Company prepares to cash its first multi-billion dollar corporate welfare check and hand part of it over to the union, it’s easy to forget that almost exactly a century ago, this multi-billion dollar behemoth with 240,000 employees was just another young small business with big dreams about to launch its next product.

While many small businesses fail, including Henry Ford’s first two attempts, a precious few survive, thrive, and then change the world, creating hundreds of thousands of jobs in the process. Just about all of the great American companies were once mere dreams in the mind of an entrepreneur. Microsoft, Apple, Intel, McDonald’s, and WalMart are but a few examples.

This will end in tears. The Obama hysteria is not merely embarrassing to witness, it is itself contributory to the scale of the disaster that is coming. What we are experiencing, in the deepening days of a global depression, is the desperate suspension of disbelief by people of intelligence - la trahison des clercs - in a pathetic effort to hypnotise themselves into the delusion that it will be all right on the night. President Obama listened to Republican gripes about his stimulus package during a meeting with congressional leaders Friday morning - but he also left no doubt about who's in charge of these negotiations. "I won," Obama noted matter-of-factly, according to sources familiar with the conversation.

Can you imagine the out cry if this was done by the conservatives of our nation?

We are treading on very dangerous ground with creepy pledges such as this:

The desecration of the US flag with the face of "The One", imagine if this were Bush.  This is a disturbing path with generations of tradition being swept aside for an inexperienced man who has accomplished virtually nothing in his life - yet he is President.  My disbelief continues.

The announcement that retired Army chief of staff Eric Shinseki will be President-elect Barack Obama's nominee for secretary of veterans affairs has energized one of the most enduring myths of the Bush presidency. Among the media coverage in recent days: Gen. Shinseki "clashed with the Bush administration on its Iraq war strategy" (Associated Press). In "questioning the Pentagon's Iraq war strategy" (The Post), Shinseki "warn[ed] that far more troops would be needed than the Pentagon had committed" (New York Times). The United Auto Workers (UAW) wants Congress to bail out General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler to prevent their undergoing restructuring in bankruptcy proceedings. In bankruptcy, a judge could order union contracts to be renegotiated to reflect competitive realities. Many analysts have objected that hourly autoworkers at the Big Three are some of the most highly paid workers in America, costing the Big Three over $70 an hour in wages and current and future benefits. All taxpayers should not be taxed to preserve the affluence of a few.

This is not what President-elect Barack Obama's energy and climate strategists would want to hear. It would be anathema to Al Gore and other assorted luminaries touting renewable energy sources which in one giant swoop will save the world from the “tyranny” of fossil fuels and mitigate global warming. And as if these were not big enough issues, oilman T. Boone Pickens’ grandiose plan for wind farms from Texas to Canada is supposed to bring about a replacement for the natural gas now used for power generation. That move will then lead to energy independence from foreign oil.

Too good to be true? Yes, and, in fact, it is a lot worse.

Of course they do.  And then they will need more, and more, and . . . . .   Why should it ever stop now?  All illusion to corporate America, let alone every day Americans, having a need to be personally responsible for their actions, left with the initial AIG bailout in July.  The barn door is open, the stopper is out of the Genie's bottle, the dam has burst . . . . well, you get the idea.

Eight financial companies -- Citigroup Inc, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs Group Inc, Wells Fargo & Co, JPMorgan Chase & Co, American International Group Inc, Bank of America Corp and GE Financial -- are in greatest need of capital, he said.
